Villas in Spain
A Song for Athena Julia is bored with her lifestyle as a secretary in London; the only excitement is meeting attractive Nick Ryan. When she gets a phone call from the older sister she barely knows, and an invitation to go to Spain for a while, she agrees wholeheartedly. Julia had always been in awe of Athena with her lavish lifestyle, extravagant, wealthy friends and wild parties. However, during her stay in Spain, Julia realizes that Athena's life doesn't seem to be quite as carefree as she had always assumed, and loud arguments indicate that something is wrong. Back in London and embarking on a relationship with Nick, Julia hears that Athena's villa has been ransacked and her sister killed. In shock, she returns to Spain to sort out the funeral arrangements and discovers amongst her things a key to a safety deposit box, in which are four envelopes, each marked with a name and each containing criminal evidence. Slowly Julia uncovers the truth surrounding Athena's lifestyle, and it proves to be a dangerous world full of dark secrets, blackmail and death.
The Roman Countryside by Stephen L. Dyson, In this book Stephen Dyson provides a new synthesis, describing current research on the Roman countryside within a topological rather than a geographical or historical framework. He first examines the Roman villa, looking at changing interpretations of the villa and the ways they have been shaped both by new information and evolving interpretative models, relating the survey-settlement evidence to larger questions of landscape use and landscape transformation during the Roman period. Focussing on areas where some of the most innovative rural research has been conducted - Italy, North Africa, Spain, and France -" he discusses what happened in rural areas in the period of transition between the end of Antiquity and the emergence of medieval society. He shows that the period of transition was much longer than previously thought, and that there was tremendous variation not only between one part of the Empire and another, but also between micro-regions within a single province.
